I think "gris" refers to the greyish color of the grape's skin: Pinot Gris Definition

The article is now archived, so I can't read it without paying (no thanks). But I've never thought the grapes looked especially grey, but I always imagined that gris referred more to the fact that it was half way between "blanc" and "noir", rather than the actual color.
Is the blog derelict?
(Says the man who routinely goes months between posts?)
